Daily Alchemy 009: Return to Yourself
Notice where your attention has gone… and bring it home.
Sometimes losing your peace does not feel like losing yourself. It feels like thinking about someone, waiting for an answer, replaying a conversation, trying to predict an outcome, checking your phone, fixing someone else’s feelings, or mentally preparing for something that has not happened yet.
The next time you notice yourself becoming consumed by something outside of you, do not immediately try to solve it. First, notice where your attention has gone.
Ask yourself:
Where is my attention right now?
Then ask:
What am I hoping will happen outside of me so I can feel different inside of me?
You may be waiting for reassurance so you can feel safe, a response so you can feel wanted, an explanation so you can feel settled, or an outcome so you can finally relax.
Once you recognize what you are reaching outward for, bring your awareness back into your body. Feel your feet. Relax your jaw. Take a slow breath. Look around and notice what is actually happening right now, rather than what your mind is imagining, remembering, or anticipating.
Then ask one final question:
What belongs to me in this moment?
Your attention. Your breath. Your boundaries. Your choices. Your response. Your next step.
You do not have to stop caring about what is happening outside of you. You are simply remembering not to abandon yourself while you care.
The Practice
NOTICE → RETURN → CHOOSE
Notice where your attention has gone.
Return your awareness to your body and the present moment.
Choose what actually belongs to you from here.
Every time you catch yourself leaving your center and consciously return, you are practicing inner peace.
The goal is not to never leave yourself. The practice is knowing the way back.
