Daily Alchemy 008: Practice Acceptance

Meet the moment before trying to change it.

Acceptance does not mean you agree with what happened, like what you are experiencing, or decide that nothing needs to change. It simply means acknowledging what is here without spending all of your energy wishing the moment were different.

Pay attention to the thoughts that sound like this shouldn’t be happening, I shouldn’t feel this way, they should be different,or this wasn’t supposed to happen. These thoughts often signal that we are fighting reality instead of working with it.

When you notice resistance, pause and ask yourself three simple questions:

1. What is true right now?

Separate what is actually happening from what you wish were happening. Name the situation or feeling without immediately trying to fix it.

2. Can I allow this to be here?

Take a breath and notice what happens in your body when you stop fighting the experience for a moment. You do not have to like it. You are simply allowing yourself to acknowledge it.

3. What can I choose from here?

Bring your attention back to what is actually within your control. Your response, boundary, perspective, behavior, next step, or decision still belongs to you.

ACCEPT → BREATHE → CHOOSE

Acceptance doesn’t mean staying where you are. It gives you a clear place to begin moving from.
