Emotions are not weaknesses. They are not inconveniences. And they are definitely not random. Emotions are energy in motion.
As I explain in the Emotions chapter of Bent Not Broken, every thought you think sends an electrical signal through your brain. That signal triggers a chemical response in the body, and that chemistry becomes what we feel .
Thought is electric.
Emotion is magnetic.
Your emotional state becomes your vibrational baseline. And that baseline shapes how you interpret, respond to, and experience your life.
The Emotional Frequency Scale
Dr. David R. Hawkins, in Power vs. Force, mapped emotional states on a measurable vibrational scale… from shame at the lowest end to enlightenment at the highest.
Lower frequencies include:
Shame (20 Hz)
Guilt (30 Hz)
Apathy (50 Hz)
Grief (75 Hz)
Fear (100 Hz)
Anger (150 Hz)
Higher frequencies include:
Reason (400 Hz)
Love (500 Hz)
Joy (540 Hz)
Peace (600 Hz)
Enlightenment (700+ Hz)
This scale isn’t about labeling emotions as “bad. It’s about awareness. Lower-frequency emotions feel heavy, contracting, survival-based. Higher-frequency emotions feel expansive, regulated, aligned.
And here’s the key: You don’t “become” high frequency by pretending you’re not feeling something. You elevate by moving through it consciously.
Emotions Are Indicators, Not Identity!
One of the most powerful truths in the Emotions chapter: You are not your emotions. You are the observer of them .
Every emotion is feedback. If you feel anxious, there is likely a future-based fear story attached. If you feel shame, there is likely a belief of “I am not enough.” If you feel powerless, there is likely a narrative of limitation running beneath the surface .
Two people can experience the exact same situation, and feel completely different emotions. Why? Interpretation. Meaning. Story.
The external event is neutral. The emotional experience comes from the meaning assigned.
How Emotions Get Stored
Neuroscience shows that repeated emotional responses create neural pathways. If you constantly rehearse fear, anger, or resentment, your nervous system wires itself to expect and reproduce those states . Dr. Joe Dispenza explains that emotions can chemically condition the body to live in the past. Trauma, unresolved grief, chronic stress… these aren’t just “memories.” They become stored patterns in the nervous system. That’s why something small can trigger something big. It’s not the moment. It’s the stored energy behind it.
But here’s the empowering part: Energy cannot be destroyed. It can only be transformed. Anger can become passion. Fear can become courage. Sadness can become compassion. This is emotional alchemy. And you are the alchemist.
A Personal Shift
There were seasons in my life where I lived in subtle anxiety. Externally, everything looked fine. Internally, my baseline frequency hovered in worry. I didn’t realize I was replaying narratives that kept my nervous system braced… always anticipating, always preparing, always scanning. It wasn’t until I slowed down and asked, “What am I telling myself right now?” That I saw it. My emotion wasn’t random. It was feedback. When I stopped fighting the anxiety and instead observed it, breathed into it, located it in my body… it began to soften. I decided not to suppress it. Instead, witness it. And in witnessing, I reclaimed power.
Transmuting Emotional Energy
From the Emotions chapter, here’s the shift process:
Identify the emotion
Where do you feel it in your body? What thought is attached to it?
Breathe & observe
Presence reduces intensity. Awareness dissolves resistance.
Move the energy
Movement, journaling, meditation, sound, expression.
Reframe the story
Instead of “This happened to me,” try “What is this teaching me?”
